How to Properly Clean Your Carpets

When you get new carpeting in your home, the best way to keep it looking great is by vacuuming it on a regular basis. You should also call a professional carpet cleaning service to your Harrisburg home every year or two to get them professionally cleaned as well. Here are a few other ways to keep your carpets clean and looking their best.

If you spill something on your carpets, like red wine or coffee, you might be tempted to try to rub the stain out. However, this is not the right thing to do in this situation. You should try to blot the spill up with a clean white cloth. If you rub the liquid into your carpet fibers, you will probably end up having to call a professional carpet cleaning service to get the stain out. You can use a stain removal cleaning product as well, but be sure to follow the instructions on the bottle and test a small and inconspicuous area of your carpet first to make sure it does not bleach your carpet or cause further damage to it.

For stains that are a bit more stubborn, you can safely clean them using club soda. Blot the stain with a clean white cloth that has some club soda on it. You can also use a mixture of vinegar and water. Put one part water with one part vinegar in a spray bottle, spray the stain with the mixture, let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes and then blot up the liquid with a clean sponge.

If you get gum on your carpets, do not cut it out with scissors or a knife. Instead, get an ice cube and let it sit on the gum until the gum hardens. You should then be able to use a spoon to scoop it up. If there are any carpet strands stuck to the gum, carefully cut them away using a small pair of scissors.

If none of these solutions work, then you should call a professional carpet cleaning service like Allwein's. We can come to your home and make your carpets look great again, and we can do it at a fair and reasonable price.

Carpet Cleaners: Tips and Tricks for Keeping Your Carpet Cleaning

As carpet cleaners in Hummelstown PA, we've seen our share of carpets that need some TLC. So we thought we would share some of our favorite tips on how to keep your carpet looking good.

One of the most important things you can do to keep your carpet looking good is to vacuum it regularly. Carpet cleaners like us have professional-grade vacuum cleaners, but the vacuums available to everyday consumers are quite effective as well. Make sure you vacuum at least once a week, and be sure to vacuum up any non-liquid spills as soon as possible after they happen.

When liquid spills happen, make sure you clean them up as soon as possible after they happen too. Blot up the liquid with a dry cloth (do not scrub), and if you are using a stain remover or cleaner, use as little of the solution as possible. And always be sure to test a small and inconspicuous part of your carpet with the cleaner before you use it elsewhere, just in case it damages or bleaches your carpet. Work from the outside of the stain to the center, and use a fan to help the carpet dry as fast as possible after you are done cleaning it.

Sometimes, however, the daily tasks just are not enough to keep your carpet looking nice and new. That is why calling in professional carpet cleaners like us is always a good option. We offer carpet cleaning services for residential and commercial clients, and we have the tools, equipment and training needed to get your carpets looking as close to new as possible.

But if you follow these tips, your carpeting should stay looking great for awhile!

Tips on How to Use a Steam Cleaner

Steam cleaning your carpets is one of the best ways to ensure they stay looking good throughout the years. Your carpets can really take a lot of wear and tear, especially if they are in high traffic areas. As a company that offers steam cleaner services in Harrisburg and the surrounding areas, we have a few tips on how to best use your steam cleaner and how to get the most out of it. Of course, if you have any questions or if you prefer to let the professionals handle this task, you can always contact us instead!

Test First
Find a hidden area of your carpet - maybe a part that is underneath a piece of furniture or somewhere in the corner of the room. Then test the steam cleaner and the cleaning product you plan to use to ensure the cleaning product does not harm your carpet: it could burn your carpeting or remove the color. So taking the time to test the steam cleaner and the cleaning product could save you some money and heart ache in the long run.

Dry Vacuum First
Before you begin to clean your carpets with your steam cleaner, vacuum the carpets with your regular vacuum cleaner first. Loose dust and grime can hide in your carpeting's fibers, and vacuuming with a dry vacuum helps draw them to the surface. What is not picked up by your dry vac will probably be picked up by your steam cleaner.

Freshen Carpets
A steam cleaner doesn't just remove dirt and debris. It can also give your carpeting a fresher scent. Simply mix a teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of water. Then pour it over pet stains or any other parts of your carpet that are giving off a bad odor. After that, use your steam cleaner and carefully go over those areas to help clean up the dirt and to help get rid of the bad smell.
