Steam Cleaner FAQ

The Allwein’s Carpet Cleaning staff gets asked many questions about our steam cleaner services. Here is a sampling:

Are steam cleaners safe?
Yes. Make sure the steam cleaning is done with a quality system with the most modern safety features. If you do it on your own, be sure to read the directions and use proper caution.

Can a steam cleaner kill dust mites?
Yes. Dust mites are killed at 130 degrees, and the temperature at the cleaner’s nozzle is about 180 degrees.

What kind of surfaces does it work on?
It’s most used for carpet cleaning, but also works extremely well on linoleum, hardwood and vinyl floors.

Will it remove pet messes in the carpet?
If chemicals haven’t reacted with the fibers, then it will remove the messes. Note that the odor will be pungent while the areas is be cleaned, but will dissipate quickly and the carpet will be free of odor.

When should I steam clean? Until my carpet really needs it?
Your carpeting should never reach the point of being contaminated with soil and other products. It will weaken the carpet fibers and you’ll have to be very aggressive in how it’s cleaned. The extremes of very dirty and very clean will rapidly decrease the life of your carpet. Your carpet should be maintained regularly, so it has a long, healthy life and assists in a clean and sanitary indoor environment.
